The proposal was different.
Put the data center in space.
Musk had sketched it out to investors first.
Cooler temperatures up there.
Gravity doesn't matter when nothing has weight.
Latency drops.
Information moves faster.
Bezos saw the same mathematics.
By 2025, both men had permits pending.
Both saw a trillion-dollar market.
Neither seemed to notice what would come next.
When you launch a rocket, it burns fuel.
Lots of it.
A single SpaceX Falcon 9 uses 12 tons of kerosene and liquid oxygen per flight.
The exhaust goes straight into the upper atmosphere.
Scientists had been measuring the soot.
